BELIEFS

  • Kids playing in the sunset

Gender equality is a fundamental human right

It is a necessary foundation for a prosperous and sustainable world and leads to better sustainability outcomes, both social and environmental. Investing in women improves community and individual well-being.

    Representation matters

One out of two people in global seafood production are women, but they are not represented in leadership and decision-making discussions. Women are critical agents for change and their approach to leadership can be transformational.

    Diversity is good for business

Diverse voices generate a wider range of solutions, boost staff retention and morale, strengthen working relationships, and lead to a healthier bottom line and increased profits.

CORE VALUES

  • Prioritize people

  • Ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion in actions and impact

  • Act with clarity, integrity, and accountability

  • Cultivate an organization of leaders

  • Execute a holistic and collaborative approach to impact

These are the ethics and principles that we stand by each and every day to best serve our mission, our team, and all involved.

  • Prioritize people  -In terms of aquatic resources, we believe that if our livelihoods and wellbeing are assured, we will be better environmental stewards. We cannot ignore people, especially women, at the expense of our work. Organizationally, SAGE prioritizes the health and wellbeing of our team, and our organizational culture reflects this.

  • Ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion in actions and impact - We value people and understand the critical importance of creating an inclusive organization that acknowledges and embraces the factors that distinguish one person from another. We know that people have different needs to succeed and these needs should be accounted for.

  • Act with clarity, integrity, and accountability - Essentially, our word is our bond. We do what we say we will do and are clear about it. We hold ourselves accountable and if we misstep, we evaluate, understand, acknowledge, and adapt these critical learnings.

  • Cultivate an organization of leaders - Everyone has potential to be a leader, but not everyone is given a chance to lead. We are committed to providing opportunities for our team to lead from every chair. This is the heart of inclusivity.

  • Execute a holistic and collaborative approach to impact - Partnerships are critical to scale and accelerate our impact. We do not need to reinvent the wheel and believe partnering with others to leverage each other's strengths is the only way forward.

Gender equality is a fundamental human right and essential to achieve the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development envisions a world of “universal respect for human rights and human dignity” in which “every woman and girl enjoys full gender equality and all legal, social and economic barriers to their empowerment have been removed.”

SDG 5  - Gender Equality - aims to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. As a sustainable development goal, gender equality is considered an accelerator and enabler of the other goals, however we must avoid placing additional burden on women to address these challenges and center women when developing solutions.
